Out jack from your DVD / Blu-ray player / cable box / STB satellite If you want to hear 5.1 CH audio, connect the digital audio Tothe TV via HDMI, only 2 CH audio will be heard from the home theatre When the source is a digitalcomponent such as a DVD / Blu-ray player /Ĭable box / STB (Set-Top-Box) satellite receiver and is connected Signal, the TV will send 5.1 CH sound to the home theatre receiver. When the receiver (home theatre) is set to on, you can hear sound If not, then what am I missing and what would be the most cost-effective way to upgrade my setup so I can enjoy 5.1 sound? Is there any way to achieve with my current set of gears what I'd like to? I plug the Chromecast into the input HDMI port of the extractor, I hook up the TV to the output HDMI port of the extractor, I use the same optical cable between the extractor and the receiver, and I set the extractor to 5.1 sound output mode. I use an intermediate Toslink audio extractor (SpeaKa Professional 29063c25) between the Chromcast and the TV and receiver. The receiver says "PCM (48Khz)" when auto-detecting the audio source. Anything I cast on the TV (from the NAS, from Netflix, from Youtube etc.) will have only stereo sound. I connect the receiver the same way as before to the TV (optical cable). I plugin in the Chromecast to one of the 4 HDMI inputs of the TV. Cons: I can only do this with media stored on my NAS (and even for those I won't have subtitles). I have DTS and Dolby Digital sound on my system. In this setup, I hook up the receiver via an optical cable to the TV's optical output, and magic happens. Using the TV's DLNA capabilities, I can play movies directly from the NAS via an Ethernet connection. I'd like to enjoy media streamed through Chromecast (from Netflix and from my Synology NAS) with Dolby Digital or DTS sound, so far without success. I have a 1st generation Chromecast, a non-smart Samsung TV (UE40D5000P) and Sony STR-DB840 receiver with 5.1 speakers hooked up.
